Almost 800 schoolchildren from the Playa Honda Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education went on a pilgrimage this Monday morning to celebrate Canary Islands Day. The students of the center have toured several streets of the town dressed in typical costumes of the islands, where they have performed and danced songs of Canarian folklore.

The romero walk began at about 9:30 in the morning, when the children left the educational center with tambourines, drums and timples singing isas such as "Esta noche no alumbra", "El zurrón del gofio" or "Andrés repásate el motor", among others. In the surrounding area (Calle Botavara, San Borondón, Calle Mayor and Alisios) a large audience gathered to observe this romero walk, which for the third consecutive year is organized by the school for the Canary Islands Day festivities.

Once the pilgrimage was over, a tenderete took place in which they ate island products such as pejines, gofio, frangollo, cheese, bananas, rosquetes, bizcochones, mimos, bread with chorizo, etc. Likewise, the students have danced isas, seguidillas and folías, as well as the music of Canarian groups and singer-songwriters. In fact, all the students danced the ‘Isa Entre amigos’ at the same time.

The festive day of the Playa Honda school ended at 13:30. This event was attended by the Local Police of the San Bartolomé City Council and Civil Protection, as well as a large part of the educational community.
