More than 100 residents of the municipality of Yaiza met this Tuesday in the town of Las Breñas to commemorate International Day of Older Persons. During the meeting, flowers and gifts were given to the oldest people, without forgetting those who could not attend the event. The elderly showed their good humor and sympathy throughout the meeting, which was enlivened by the Los Salineros de la Hoya band.

The act showed a collage of images of the performances of older people at local festivals, moments lived on excursions, games and enriching experiences. The elderly did not hesitate to applaud when a photo of Julia Rodríguez Martín, the oldest resident of the municipality, who is currently 103 years old, appeared. In the hall of the sociocultural center of Las Breñas were present Georgina Hernández, 91 years old, and Isidro Perdomo, 90 years old, witnesses of the affection that their companions of the third age group profess.

The celebration kept a special dedication. Neighbors of Yaiza and monitors of the City Council wanted to highlight the figure of Teresita Camacho González, "who with her energy and vitality" has made them spend "unforgettable moments in different integrating encounters". The poets Benjamina Marrero and Antonio Gutiérrez recited verses to the honoree.

Tests, dances and parranda

Teresita Camacho went on stage and received gifts from the mayoress, Gladys Acuña, and the councilor of Social Dynamization, Manuela Martín. Acuña reiterated the commitment of the municipal government to "activities aimed at and attention to the elderly".

After this recognition, the test and dance contest, starring three funny couples, was held. After the presentation of diplomas to the winners, the party continued with enyesque and the music of the parranderos de La Hoya.
