With two mops, a sink stopper, a tablecloth, a banana, a trumpet and little else, you can make a Viking costume. The proof of this is in the poster announcing the Arrecife Carnival 2012, made by the photographer and teacher of the School of Arts and Crafts, Pepe Vera.
During the presentation of the poster, the author highlighted his purpose of valuing imagination and creativity in times of crisis, when making carnival costumes. "I propose that we act as we did before, looking for old clothes and recycling materials of all kinds," he said. He also highlighted that under the beard, helmet and mop wig hides his son Besay, who has contributed as a model to the elaboration of the Carnival poster.
The mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, stressed the importance of investing in parties "because as a tourist destination, we are responsible for offering visitors an attractive and quality agenda of activities."
Reguera took the opportunity to inform of his intention to locate a space where the public can exhibit the important art gallery integrated by the originals of the San Ginés and Carnival posters, gathered over the years. "We have works by Manrique, Juan Gopar, Santiago Alemán or Rufina Curbelo. And now, also, by Pepe Vera," he said.
For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Víctor Sanginés, expressed his satisfaction with a poster that he described as "modern, innovative, with a message and perfect for publicizing our Carnival outside of Lanzarote."
Likewise, the head of the Festivities department announced that, as has been done with the popular election of the Carnival fantasy, "I will always try to consult with the citizens, or at least with the groups involved, the main decisions or changes that are considered in relation to the festivities."
