A total of 22 residents join the health area of Lanzarote to complete their training

The Internal Medicine service of the Molina Orosa Hospital will train a resident doctor for the first time, after being accredited by the Ministry of Health in November

The Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital held this Monday the welcome ceremony for the 22 new residents who begin specialized health training in the Lanzarote Health Area.

Due to the situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the event took place in the Arrecife Civic Center where, in addition to the tutors of the teaching services and the head of studies, they were received by the Hospital and Primary Care Management

The new class of residents who begin their training stage in the Molina Orosa and Insular Hospitals and in the health centers of Lanzarote belong to different medical and nursing specialties, although most focus on the specialty of Family and Community Care, with eight places for resident internal doctors (MIR) and four for resident internal nurses (EIR)

In addition, this year two resident doctors and one nurse begin their training in the Multiprofessional Geriatrics Teaching Unit, while the Pediatrics service welcomes the training of a specialist doctor and two resident internal nurses. For its part, the Obstetric-gynecological Nursing unit will guide the training of three new Nursing professionals.

The Ministry highlights that the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital expands the teaching units this year and the Internal Medicine service welcomes for the first time an internal doctor for his training as a specialist, after being accredited by the Ministry of Health in November.

The training period for the new specialists lasts between two and five years, depending on the specialty they perform. During this time, the new health professionals receive theoretical and practical training while carrying out healthcare activity in health centers and research is encouraged.

The medical director of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, Carlos García, has highlighted the work carried out by those responsible for the Teaching Units and has expressed his satisfaction for the recent accreditation of the hospital center to train a new specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, which will be offered next year.

For her part, the head of training, Verónica Gutiérrez, welcomed the new residents who will be trained in the health centers of Lanzarote and encouraged them to get "the most out of the stage they are beginning and to focus their attention on patient care and the quality of care".
