A house affected by the house rehabilitation projects in the Titerroy neighborhood, in Arrecife, was filled with sewage this Monday due to one of the street's sewers, which burst because it could not withstand the rains. "It was expelling all the sewage into the house," the president of the Neighborhood Association, Ismael Montero, explained this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. The furniture in the house has been destroyed.
And all this, despite the fact that the group had warned the Arrecife City Council on October 16 that this house could suffer flooding with the rains. "We asked for a technician to visit it, but no one visited it. Only Councilor Víctor Sanginés went, who, although it was not his area, said that he would transfer it to the City Council," Montero pointed out.
However, no one provided a solution to this issue before the rains fell. "The sewage system burst and everything got inside the house. To this day, no technician has passed through this house," Montero denounced. From the neighborhood association, they have invited the affected person to report this fact to the Local Police of Arrecife, since "it is not their fault, but the City Council's, because the problem is on public roads."
Because the sewers burst, this house has lost "many pieces of furniture." "We were bailing water all morning," explained Montero, who recalled that the association sends a letter to the City Council every summer, "reminding them that the rains are coming and that the drains must be cleaned."
Affected by the rehabilitation project
The flooded house is one of those affected by the rehabilitation project in this neighborhood, which has been paralyzed for more than two years. "The City Council has never worried about the shored-up houses. A technician should have looked at all this because we are talking about human lives," Montero insisted.
Therefore, he believes that the situation that was experienced on Monday in this neighborhood of Arrecife is "third world." Montero recalled that every time it rains "a little," the city becomes "a disaster."
