This Saturday, January 7, begins the double world tour of MSC Cruises. In one of its ships, the "Poesía", Eloy José Ramil and Mar Vidal will go with their five-year-old son, Eliot. They will go around the world on a 117-day itinerary that departs from the port of Barcelona. They will return to that city four months after their journey through the five continents, which will take them to visit, among other places, Costa Rica, San Francisco, Hawaii, Japan, China, Vietnam, Jordan and Australia. They will visit more than 50 destinations in 33 countries.
The couple, originally from Valencia and residents of Lanzarote for a decade, are passionate about travel. They live in the town of Nazaret, in the municipality of Teguise. The coronavirus pandemic forced them to postpone their new adventure in 2021. They have not hesitated to take their child with them, with whom they will act as teachers so that he can continue with his classes for the rest of the course. "We are able to teach him the knowledge for his age and also when he is older. We are used to studying with him during the course and also in the summer. We spoke with the teachers and they provided us with the books with the necessary material for the coming months,” said Eloy.
“We want to be away for a few months and rest a little from the daily routine. Considering that we are taking our son with us, we believe that the most comfortable and peaceful thing for the child would be to travel by cruise and that is why we have chosen this option,” says Eloy, who is a technological development project engineer. Mar is a lawyer for the Administration of Justice in the courts of Arrecife.

About the trip
MSC Cruises, the third largest cruise company in the world and leader in the market in Europe, South America and South Africa, has kicked off its most ambitious adventure, MSC World Cruise. This itinerary returns after two years of not being able to be carried out due to the pandemic to make history, with a double departure aboard MSC Magnifica and MSC Poesia. Both routes will take passengers around the world, visiting up to 53 destinations in 33 countries.
In this edition, passengers from the Canary Islands have traveled to Barcelona to embark on the MSC World Cruise that will make history due to the number of Spanish passengers who will make the trip. 3 Canarians will embark on their adventure aboard MSC Magnifica, the usual MSC World Cruise ship. This edition of MSC World Cruise will have a lot of Spanish flavor, since a total of 591 Spaniards have signed up, four times more than in the last edition.
MSC Poesia and MSC Magnifica docked this Saturday in Barcelona, their last port of embarkation, which will also be the port of disembarkation after the four-month trip. Both ships have picked up passengers at 3 previous stops that have taken place in Citavecchia and Genoa (Italy), on January 4 and 5, respectively; and Marseille (France), on January 6. Thus, the port of Barcelona will be the last place where the two cruises will be at the same time and where they will separate to venture on these two journeys.
With this cruise, the Canary Island passengers will embark on a unique journey to discover some of the most popular destinations in the world, and other more remote ones in a special way. With MSC World Cruise they will spend the night in stopovers such as Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Valparaíso, among other cities.
During the 17 weeks that the trip will last, the cruisers will sail through the five continents discovering different cultures around the world.
The Canarians, passengers of MSC Magnifica, will discover South America, South Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and will continue their navigation until they reach the mystical Arabian Sea, passing through the Red Sea and returning to the Mediterranean crossing the incredible Suez Canal. During the route, they will visit different countries and cultures, such as Argentina, Chile, Peru, or the Cook Islands, as well as Australia, New Caledonia, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Jordan.
On the other hand, the cruisers aboard MSC Poesia, the second ship that the shipping company has positioned for this double world tour, will take a 119-day trip where they will visit Costa Rica, San Francisco and Hawaii in the USA, Japan, China, Vietnam, and Jordan, among others.
Passengers will be able to enjoy the comfort and style of MSC Cruises, and will also have a wide range of entertainment that will guarantee that, both inside and outside the ship, passengers enjoy the trip of their lives. To further enrich the experience, MSC Cruises has also carefully prepared a special program that includes everything from ice carving and champagne tasting to a wide range of lectures on specialized topics, more than 30 large-scale shows, guest artists, dance classes, language schools and much more.
Gastronomy: renowned chefs will embark in different ports around the world
In addition to the high-quality international gastronomic options that MSC Cruises passengers have become accustomed to, those who sail on the 2023 world cruises will be able to experience something very special, with menus prepared by a group of award-winning chefs.
These chefs will join the cruises at different intervals, to prepare a complete three- to four-course menu, each showcasing the best of their cuisines.
On board both ships: The veteran Brazilian chef and restaurateur, Allan Vila Espejo, will serve a menu that includes an authentic cassava soup and a Bahian-style fish stew, with sweet peppers and coconut milk.
On board MSC Magnifica: The renowned Peruvian chef, James Berckemeyer, will serve a spectacular menu that includes Peruvian beef cheeks and a local caramel pudding called 'Suspiro de Lúucuma'.
On board MSC Poesia: The Japanese-American chef, Roy Yamaguchi, will serve a featured menu that includes a grilled teriyaki pork chop with Hawaiian chimichurri. In addition, Niklas Ekstedt, a Swedish chef with a Michelin star, television personality and writer, will serve dishes inspired by natural ingredients and his farm-to-ocean ethic.
As if that were not enough, the chefs will also be present to greet passengers in person while they taste their delicious dishes in the ship's main restaurants.
This double departure begins a very promising year for the company. In 2022 it broke its historical sales record, and celebrated the arrival of two new ships to its fleet: MSC World Europa, the first MSC Cruises ship powered by LNG, and MSC Seascape, inaugurated in December in New York City. Specifically in Spain, MSC Cruises has bet more than ever on the Canary Islands, especially in the ports of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Arrecife (Lanzarote). During 2022, MSC Musica, MSC Preziosa MSC Seaview made a stopover in the three ports. In addition, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, they also received MSC Seaside, MSC Splendida and MSC Virtuosa. Finally, the port of Tenerife has been the port of embarkation for MSC Magnifica during the autumn of 2022 on its route through the Western Mediterranean.
