The town of Tao has closed its festivities in honor of San Miguel. To this end, last Sunday its inhabitants went to the neighboring island of La Graciosa to spend a day of coexistence with its citizens. In this sense, the members of the El Fomento Society, organizers of the festivities in Tao, joined with the members of the Peña La Amistad belonging to La Graciosa. In addition to spending a pleasant day talking to each other, a great meal was prepared. The residents of Tao made a great paella, while those of La Graciosa cooked typical fish from the area such as moray eels.
However, throughout the weekend the inhabitants of Tao, together with other people who have come to the town, have been able to enjoy a wide program of festivities. Friday night was dedicated to humor. In this case, it was with the performance of Lolo el Gomero, who with his jokes never ceased to surprise and amuse those who gathered to see the comedian's show. Afterwards, a great popular barbecue was held in which everyone enjoyed typical Canarian and local food.
Saturday also featured a great show, although in this case it was of dance and music. The protagonists were the students of the Rosa del Valle Dance School who interspersed dances of very varied styles with songs. The attendees applauded and had a good time with these young people who showed great skill and good work on stage. The evening also ended with a popular barbecue in which good food was enjoyed again.
Celebration
These days the town also hosted the religious celebration with the procession of San Miguel. The processional parade ran through the streets of the town. The image of San Miguel was accompanied by a large number of faithful who wanted to show their affection for the saint in this way.
The archangel San Miguel, whose name in Hebrew means 'Who is like God?' is the head of the celestial armies and therefore the prince of angels in the Jewish, Christian (except Protestant) and Islamic religions.
For the Hebrews he is the protector of Israel and patron of the synagogue. The Christian religion considers him as patron and protector of the Universal Church; and the first of the seven archangels. Also as viceroy of heaven, companion of souls to eternity and the victor of Lucifer. That is why in art he is represented as an angel with Roman general armor, threatening another angel, the demon or a dragon with a spear or sword.
