The first thing he felt was chills. He had no fever or sore throat, but as a precaution he decided not to get the Covid vaccine, for which he had an appointment last week. Finally, seeing that he was not getting better and that he also felt especially fatigued, he decided to go to his health center, in Playa Blanca, and asked to be tested for coronavirus.
“I was attended by a lady who seemed quite annoyed, as if I was wasting her time, and she ended up sending me home with paracetamol,” he complains. According to him, he asked for a test, but the response, after asking him questions about his symptoms, was that “there was not enough basis” to carry it out, attributing the chills he had been suffering for days to “the heat wave” that had been on the island.
Four days later, he had a new appointment to get vaccinated and this time he did go, but there the health center staff decided not to administer it and request a PCR. This Tuesday he took the test and on Wednesday they confirmed that he has Covid-19.
“I may have put more people at risk”, laments this resident of Playa Blanca, who wanted to make his complaint public. First of all, he is concerned about his wife and his 15-month-old son, who were going to be tested this Wednesday afternoon as close contacts; but also his co-workers.
“I spoke with the tracker and gave him data and phone numbers. And I have also called them, apologizing a little, because I feel that this is happening,” he explains. However, he himself then adds that he does not consider himself to be “to blame” for what happened. “I went to get a test when I felt bad and they didn't do it,” he insists. However, he is confident that there have been no infections, since all his co-workers, who are somewhat older than him, have already been vaccinated.
"An incredible confusion"
He is 31 years old and to the chills and sweats of the first days diarrhea was later added and later a greater feeling of fatigue, although fortunately he has not developed serious symptoms and continues at home, now keeping himself isolated from his wife and son. “It breaks my heart not being able to get close to him,” he says when talking about his baby.
But above all, he insists on his criticism of the treatment he received on his first visit to the health center, and also for “the chaos” when he returned on Monday with the intention of getting the vaccine. “A doctor called me, then another... An incredible confusion. That clinic is a disaster. One tells you one thing and another tells you another,” he questions.
Furthermore, he considers that this is not the way to act in the midst of a pandemic. “If a citizen asks for a test because they are not well, I think they have to do it,” he defends, insisting that his concern is having continued to put both his family and “colleagues, clients and tourists” at risk.
In his case, he does not know where he was infected, since he is not aware of having been with anyone who has tested positive. However, given the life he leads, he believes it had to be at his work, in a restaurant in El Golfo. “My colleagues have not had symptoms and are all vaccinated, so perhaps it could have been from a client,” he points out.
