3.7% of the population of Lanzarote suffers from some type of disability, according to figures from the Ministry of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands that has just been published by the Cabildo Data Center.
The data is related to December 31, 2019 and, according to them, there were 5,694 people with disabilities on the island at that time. However, it is pointed out that 1,799 had a degree of disability of less than 33% and that, therefore, they did not have access to the official consideration of people with disabilities.
As for the number of people with a disability greater than 33%, it amounted to 3,895. Of these, 2,240 had a degree of disability of between 33 and 64 percent, 948 had a degree of disability of between 65 and 74 percent, and 707 had a degree of disability greater than 75 percent.
Data by municipalities and types of disability
By municipalities, Arrecife had 3,116 people with some type of disability, 2,093 with a degree equal to or greater than 33%. For its part, Haría had 186 citizens with disabilities, 141 in a percentage equal to or greater than 33%; while in San Bartolomé there were 667 people with disabilities, 460 of them with a degree equal to or greater than 33%.
In Tías there were 542 residents with some type of disability, 369 of them in a percentage equal to or greater than 33%; Tinajo had 222 people with disabilities, 157 with a degree equal to or greater than 33%; and Yaiza had 351 residents with disabilities, 237 with a degree equal to or greater than 33%
By types of disability, 3,213 people had a physical disability, 1,600 had a mental disability and 856 had a sensory disability, with the same person being able to have different types of disability.
