The carol Una sobre el mismo mar will congratulate the Canarians on Christmas 2024 with a new version to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its composition, by the timple player Benito Cabrera, and which has been updated with a new verse dedicated to the island of La Graciosa.
The Government of the Canary Islands presented this Thursday, in an event attended by President Fernando Clavijo, its 2024 Christmas institutional campaign based on the recording of a commemorative version of the carol and a commercial inspired by this motif.
This new version by the timple player Benito Cabrera has featured a large cast of young Canarian artists and includes the new 2020 verse dedicated to the island of La Graciosa.
The artists who have participated in the video clip, along with Benito Cabrera, are Ana Guerra, Árgel Campos, Nalaya Brown, Álvaro Tadeo, Andrea Rodríguez, Joel Rodríguez, Julia Rodríguez, Jess Fraser, Sergio Rivero, Eloísa González, Pancho Corujo, Manuel Estupiñán, Cristina Ramos, Iván Quintana, Paula Gómez and Belén Álvarez (Lajalada).
According to Benito Cabrera, "this commemorative version not only seeks to honor the past, but also revitalize the message of the song by showing that unity from singularity remains a central value for the Canary Islands."
During the presentation, there was a live performance of the carol with Benito Cabrera on the timple, the singer José Manuel Ramos, who participated in the recording of the first video 30 years ago, and the singer Jess Fraser, who is involved in this new edition.
Likewise, Benito Cabrera recalled how the carol Una sobre el mismo mar was created and what the recording of this song, which is now known to all Canarians, meant for his career.
December 17 is the scheduled date for the presentation of the advertisement on radio, television, press and social networks.
This presentation is part of the events programmed by the Canarian Executive within the Christmas festivities, after the institutional nativity scenes of the Government were inaugurated a week ago at the headquarters of the Presidency in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife for public viewing.
