Blood Donation

The Canary Islands Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH), under the Department of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, is calling on the public for an "urgent donation" of blood and platelets to meet the high hospital demand being recorded at this time.

The ICHH will launch a special operation of donation points during the last weekend of the year.

Requirements to donate blood

The basic requirements to donate blood are to be between 18 and 65 years old (up to 60 if it is your first donation), weigh more than 50 kilos, be in good general health, and not be pregnant.

However, since there are multiple variables that can determine the suitability of the donor, the ICHH provides citizens on its website with a self-assessment questionnaire to check if they can donate blood.

Where to donate in Lanzarote

The hemodonation team continues this Wednesday in Arrecife, specifically at Decathlon Lanzarote, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

On Thursday and Friday, it will move to San Bartolomé and will be installed next to the Hiperdino supermarket in Playa Honda, where blood can be donated on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The fixed blood donation point of the Canary Transfusion Network at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital is also operational. The hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except holidays. To donate, it is necessary to request an appointment by calling 928 59 55 72 option 3.
