About thirty students from the first year of Baccalaureate at IES Costa Teguise in Lanzarote visited the Arrecife Courthouse on Thursday, February 13, convened by the Educar en Justicia program, which is carried out in the Canary Islands by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) and the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Autonomous Government.
The students, tutored by the professors of the Department of Philosophy Laura Grobas Sebio (head of department) and Francisco José Santana Gutiérrez, were received at the judicial headquarters first thing in the morning by the magistrate judge dean of Arrecife, Adalberto de la Cruz, who explained to them in a simplified and relaxed way the basic lines of the functioning of the Administration of Justice.
Afterwards, they attended a series of trials for minor offenses officiated by Judge Jesús Amate, head of the Court of Instruction number One, who, together with the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office, answered the many questions raised by the proactive minors. They bordered the experience with a visit to the dungeons guided by the National Police and the Civil Guard, and an intense tour of the anatomical-forensic Clinic.
There, the forensic doctor Jesús Esparza offered them an unforgettable practical class on basic principles of anatomy and forensic pathology. This is the second session that the Educar en Justicia course celebrates this year in the capital of Lanzarote. The experience fascinated all its actors.
