The Department of Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council will begin a new training course next Monday, June 17, aimed at supporting self-employment as a means of labor insertion and empowerment for women victims of gender violence and other forms of violence.

These Training and Self-Employment Capacity Building days have the main objective of "empowering" the women attendees so that they discover and develop their potential, promoting the creation of self-employment and the acquisition of personal and professional skills necessary to join the labor market on their own or for others, as revealed by the council.

Maite Corujo, who emphasizes the firm commitment of the Department of Social Welfare to "help" women victims of gender violence, stresses that with this training, "we not only provide practical tools and essential knowledge, but also offer a space for support and empowerment." "We want all these women to feel capable and safe to start and improve their employment situation," said Corujo.

In addition, the councilor highlighted the joint work with the Cabildo to "decentralize" care and ensure that victims of gender violence in Arrecife receive the necessary support. "According to data from the Cabildo, Arrecife, with 365 women attended during 2023, has the highest number of victims of gender violence on the island, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the resources and support they need to rebuild their lives," adds the councilor.

The course is structured in three main blocks. The first, Empower Yourself and Take Control of Your Economy, focuses on financial education. The second block, Improve Your Digital Skills, offers training in the knowledge and management of tools such as email, digital signature systems, and obtaining prior appointments. The third block, "Self-Employment and Training," covers training dedicated to the creation and validation of business ideas, as well as initial advice for the implementation of economic activities as a form of labor insertion.

The first week will be dedicated exclusively to the participating women, while the second week will include additional workshops for their minor children, thus facilitating the attendance of the participants.

The training, organized by the Department of Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council, is financed with funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence, as reported by the Arrecife City Council.

The Area led by Maite Corujo in the capital's Consistory "will continue to develop initiatives like this, joining forces and collaborating with various entities to improve the quality of life and opportunities for women victims of gender violence" in Arrecife, she concluded.
