This Monday, January 22, the new regulations of the General Directorate of Traffic on the circulation of electric scooters (VMP) in Spain come into force. From this Monday, the owners of these vehicles must have an identification plate.
The Local Police of Arrecife has been carrying out informative actions on the roads of the capital municipality since last autumn on the entry into force of the new regulations of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) for the circulation of electric scooters. These informative actions have been developed directly by the agents, and also through social networks with detailed information on the official profiles of the Local Police of Arrecife on Facebook and Instagram.
Thus, it is recalled that, from this Monday, January 22, it will be mandatory for electric scooter owners to carry an identification aluminum plate on the VMP, a reduced sheet of general characteristics, and a circulation certificate. Drivers must carry Civil Liability Insurance and wear a helmet.
The Local Police of Arrecife reminds citizens that it is "forbidden for VMPs to go on sidewalks, pedestrian areas, crossing points, highways, dual carriageways, interurban roads or tunnels in urban areas. Circulation is allowed on any urban road in the capital of Lanzarote, in accordance with the provisions of the DGT regulations".
The drivers of these electric scooters are subject to the same maximum alcohol rates allowed by the Road Safety Law, as well as the prohibition of driving with the presence of drugs in the body.
The General Directorate of Traffic reminds citizens that from January 22, 2024, only certified personal mobility vehicles will be able to be marketed.
