The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES) and the International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) organization, is hosting for the first time a specialized course in the care of patients with severe trauma.
This event, organized by the hospital's Emergency Department, will take place from May 16 to 18 and is aimed at emergency professionals, both pre-hospital and hospital-based, in Lanzarote. In total, twenty-five experts from both areas have registered. The main objective of the course is to train this staff to assess, stabilize and transport polytraumatized patients quickly and safely. The training will combine theoretical and practical sessions that will be held in the classrooms of the hospital center.
In addition, three simulations will be carried out in different locations to assess the skills of the participants in severe trauma scenarios. In this sense, the simulations will allow healthcare professionals to familiarize themselves with teamwork, assuming roles such as leader or rescuer. During these exercises, the scene of an accident will be assessed, the patient's cervical spine will be stabilized, the equipment will be transported to the patient, and airways will be managed, among other critical emergency tasks.
The course is directed by the manager of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital Complex, Roberto Gómez Pescoso, and will include the participation of the SAMUR-PC nurse from Madrid, Fernando López Pereira, as well as other instructors from hospitals and health centers in the Canary Islands. This activity is declared of health interest and accredited by the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine. It is part of the SEMES-ITLS course program and represents a significant advance in the training and preparation of emergency personnel for the care of patients with severe trauma.
