Two more puppies that were rescued from a bag of sand and stones in Tinajo have died at the Sara animal shelter. "We tried to save them but little by little they have been dying, because they were only a day old. We have hope that the three that are alive will make it", said the spokesperson for the shelter, Ana Belén Domínguez.
The discovery of these newborn dogs in Tinajo has been "a very hard blow" for the shelter. "It's brutal and terribly cruel. We have already found many litters of newborn dogs and cats in a garbage container. But in this case, they were not satisfied with that, but they had to bury them alive", she lamented.
Therefore, Sara does not understand why the laws have not been tightened yet. "We are tired of seeing so much human evil against animals, who only have us. We do not understand how it is possible that the laws are still so weak and do nothing to change them. We are going little by little, but you can't go so slowly, because in the meantime lives are being lost along the way", she said.
Despite this, she assured that the situation with respect to animals in Lanzarote is better than when Sara opened 28 years ago. "Yes, it has improved. We saw photographs of cases that came to us at the beginning and they were much more cruel. The evolution is favorable but very slow", she lamented.
