The Investigating Court Number 6 of Arrecife has charged the accused with a possible crime of murder, for the death of Víctor Carmelo Rivero, whose body appeared near the Tías crusher, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC). Steven Díaz Giraldo was arrested this Tuesday by agents of the Command of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, five months after allegedly committing these acts.

After appearing in court and testifying before the magistrate, she ordered his admission to provisional prison, without bail. The proceedings remain under summary secrecy.

The detainee, 26 years old, is of Colombian origin, resides on the island, and worked with the deceased in a carpentry shop. Apparently, the police found his fingerprints on the plastic bag with which he could have committed the crime.

Detained, five months later

The alleged perpetrator of the death of Víctor Carmelo, 69 years old, whose body appeared in the vicinity of the Tías crusher, was arrested five months after allegedly committing these acts. The arrest occurred last Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. in Lanzarote by agents of the Civil Guard, who accuse him of a crime of homicide.

The arrest occurred as a result of investigations carried out to clarify the death of Víctor Carmelo, whom the agents found under a bridge, where he resided. The Civil Guard, after proceeding to take statements and collect traces at the scene of the events, which led to the opening of several lines of investigation, collected sufficient evidence to incriminate Steven Díaz. The agents also had the help of the criminalistics laboratory.

The suspect sporadically interacted with the victim and it is suspected that the motives for committing the homicide were economic, since it was commented in the area that the victim could have hidden money, according to the Civil Guard in a statement.
