The Local Police of Arrecife has clarified the circumstances of the accident registered on the morning of last Monday, February 10, on Avenida Alcalde Ginés de la Hoz, next to the Lanzarote Sports City, in the La Vega neighborhood, in the capital of Lanzarote.
According to the police report, the accident was caused by the driver of a box truck, a 43-year-old male, a native of Madrid and resident of Lanzarote, who collided with a traffic light and knocked down its pole.
The subsequent investigation determined that the vehicle involved was circulating with an expired Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV). Furthermore, after consulting the database of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), officers verified that the driver lacked a valid driving license, having lost all assigned points.
Given these facts, the Local Police opened and initiated proceedings for a presumed offense against road safety, for driving a motor vehicle without a license due to total loss of points and causing a traffic accident.
The box truck was subsequently transferred to a workshop on the island of Fuerteventura, as recorded in the proceedings.
The driver was summoned for a fast-track trial at the Arrecife Court of First Instance, Plaza nº 2, assisted by a court-appointed lawyer.
