The mayor of Arrecife, José Montelongo, and the municipal auditor, Carlos Sáenz, have availed themselves this Monday of their right not to testify before the judge investigating the Montecarlo case. In the case of the mayor, his defense has asked for more time to study the latest documentation that the City Council sent at the request of the Court.
In addition to Montelongo and Sáenz, the businessman Carlos Lemes was also summoned this Monday, all of them to testify as defendants within the Inelcon piece, for alleged embezzlement of public funds in payments to this company. However, none of the three wanted to answer questions, although at least Montelongo and Carlos Lemes have assured that they will testify when they analyze the latest documents incorporated into the summary.
For this, their defenses will have to request a voluntary statement later. And the investigation is already in its final stretch and if it is not done, the investigation could be closed without this last statement.
In addition to this piece of Montecarlo, the mayor is also charged in the Tunera case. For his part, the auditor must respond in all the pieces, including that of San Bartolomé and the separate case of Fuerteventura. Added to this are also his charges in the Unión case and the first conviction he already has behind him within that case, also for embezzlement of public funds, among other crimes, in payments to Proselan for work not done.
