The Sara animal shelter has registered a new case of animal abuse on the island. Specifically, the association has rescued Rubí, a 12-year-old dog found in a field in the Arrecife area who had a rope around her neck for years, which, among other things, has caused her a serious infection.
According to the shelter, "Rubí had been enduring a rope tied around her neck for years that pressed and strangled her." Thus, "this serious pressure has caused her skin and muscle to be sunken and she has developed a serious infection. Because of this, the dog also suffers from the appearance of worms in her neck, which devour her skin." Specifically, after her rescue they have detected the presence of myiasis; "fly larvae that feed on the animal's tissues".
Likewise, among the physical consequences of the abuse suffered by Rubí is pyometra; "a uterine infection" that, from the Sara shelter, they explain, is produced because the dog would have "given birth to several litters without veterinary control".
From Sara they have explained that "Rubí is currently under observation, but they are optimistic about the dog's recovery, since they find her with a lot of strength and with appetite, which is always a good sign." Apart from that physical abuse, "the dog suffers from psychological consequences", since the shelter assures that "she still does not let anyone approach her, she is very afraid and still distrusts." When she recovers "it will be time to find her a home, either adopted or she can be permanently welcomed in our PAP, (Permanent Foster Care Plan)", they say from SARA.
