The National Police has arrested two men, 29 and 36 years old, as alleged perpetrators of the burning of four vehicles and a container in Arrecife, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 21.
The police investigation began after agents received a notice from a witness of a vehicle fire on Tomás Lubary Street, in the capital of Lanzarote, with firefighters, National Police and Local Police moving to the scene.
While the agents were talking with several witnesses and gathering information about what happened, a patrol located another fire in a container, which affected another vehicle, on José Ortega y Gasset Street.
Thanks to citizen collaboration and a witness who saw two individuals trying to set fire to another vehicle with a towel soaked in some flammable liquid that same night, the alleged perpetrators were fully identified.
Specifically, one of those involved was already in police custody, after being caught red-handed by the Local Police of Arrecife, stealing from inside a vehicle at the same time as the fires, after a second person had fled.
After locating the second man in the capital, the National Police proceeded to his immediate arrest as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage.
The arrested, who already had a record, have been placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, the Investigating Court number four of Arrecife, who has ordered the imprisonment of both involved for a crime of damage.
However, the police investigation remains open to determine the alleged participation of the arrested in other similar events that occurred in Arrecife.
It should be remembered that so far this year, a total of five people have already been arrested by the National Police for intentional fires to vehicles and containers in the capital of Lanzarote.
