José Antonio Perera, the man who was brutally attacked in his house in La Florida on January 18, has died on Thursday night. He had been admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife last Wednesday and was in serious condition. According to sources close to the family, his new admission to the hospital occurred after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest, which would have been a consequence of a thrombus in his leg.
Although it is unknown at the moment if his death is related to the attack, those around him were already convinced of it this Wednesday. In fact, after the violent beating, this resident of San Bartolomé had to undergo surgery, among other things, for clots that had caused the serious injuries inflicted by his assailants. After the assault, Perera was urgently transferred to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There he remained for several days in intensive care and a total of 14 days admitted. He had suffered fractures in his arm, ribs and also his skull, and his attackers even applied electric shocks to him. He left the Gran Canaria hospital on February 1.
In the more than a month and a half that has passed since the violent episode, the Civil Guard's investigation has been carried out under the utmost secrecy and hardly any details have emerged about it. It is known, from the testimonies of Perera and his partner, that the assailants were a group of between three and six people and that at least one of them had a Canarian accent. As they explained to the agents, the aggressors assured them that they had been watching their house for months.
The events happened around 8:00 a.m., when the carpenter's partner arrived home after dropping the children off at school. There she found a woman who assured her that she belonged to the agency against money laundering and persuaded her to enter the house. Inside she found her partner, naked and tied up, and the rest of the assailants. After brutally attacking José Antonio Perera and ransacking the house and even breaking bathrooms and false ceilings, the assailants fled, leaving this carpenter from San Bartolomé seriously injured. Although she was not attacked, his partner was also tied up and needed psychological attention after what happened.
