The Seprona of the Civil Guard Command of Las Palmas and the Timanfaya Detachment, coordinated with the Helicopter Unit of Fuerteventura (UHEL), are carrying out several devices for the prevention and control of aggregate extraction in Lanzarote, coinciding with the complaints that different environmental groups have been raising for some time. During the same, on August 10, a company was located carrying out this activity in a restricted area and without the corresponding authorization. In addition, the Civil Guard states that it is aware of several other companies that carry out the same activity illegally.
As a result of the surveillance being carried out by the Civil Guard for the protection of the Environment and protected areas, the Seprona, coordinated with the UHEL, intercepted several trucks and mechanical shovels extracting jable next to Muñique (Teguise), which they later transported in several trucks to Arrecife.
Therefore, the Seprona will prepare the relevant reports for the opening of the files that will be sent to the competent authority in instruction and sanction proposals, which in this case is the Canary Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment.

These devices are being carried out by different units of the Civil Guard in order to avoid damage to the environment and particularly in areas that may be more sensitive such as Muñique, where there is a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).
Possible sanctions
According to Law 4/2017, on Land and Protected Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands, in its article 386, the extraction of aggregates is classified as a very serious infraction and is sanctioned with fines of up to 600,000 euros.
