The Civil Guard intervened last 28th a total of 2,920 packs of cigarettes distributed in the luggage of 3 passengers who were going to take different flights at the Lanzarote airport. In addition to seizing the tobacco, the agents have also filed a complaint against these three people, for a tax violation of the Organic Law of repression of smuggling.

The components of the Lanzarote Airport Tax Detachment detected this unauthorized amount of tobacco while carrying out surveillance of checked baggage. At that time, they located several suitcases that "appeared to contain a large number of cigarettes or tobacco products, being separated from the rest of the luggage." Then, they began the procedures to locate their owners, who were not traveling together. According to the Civil Guard, each of the defendants was going to take a different flight, although all had Madrid as their destination.

After locating them, the luggage was opened, finding 650 packs in one of them, 770 and 650 in another, and 850 in the last luggage checked. For all these reasons, the merchandise was seized, which will now be "auctioned or destroyed", according to the Civil Guard. In addition, a complaint was filed against these three passengers, who face economic sanctions "that generally reach twice the market value of the merchandise in question." The complaint was sent to the Customs and Special Taxes Administration of Arrecife.
