The "Río Guadalope" High Seas Patrol Boat of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas rescued a group of 28 immigrants in the early hours of Monday who were traveling in a boat heading towards Lanzarote. Among them there would be 4 minors.
It was at 02.30 hours when a Civil Guard radar detected a boat sailing 15 kilometers from Órzola, on the north coast of the municipality of Haría, in the high seas. Immediately, the "Río Guadalope" came to their aid, encountering certain difficulties due to the darkness of the night, the strong maritime currents in that area and the overload of the boat of just 6 meters in length.
With an auxiliary zodiac, the civil guards managed to rescue all its occupants safe and sound, who once on board the Patrol Boat were transferred to the Arrecife Dock where 28 men of Maghrebi origin were disembarked, all in good health and among whom apparently there could be 4 minors.
The arrival at the Arrecife Dock took place around 06.00 hours this Tuesday, where the empty boat was also towed. After humanitarian assistance, the immigrants have been taken to the Civil Guard facilities in Costa Teguise, in order to be identified for later admission to an internment center in the case of adults and minors to a supervised center.
