The Civil Guard has located an inflatable boat attached to a delta wing equipped with an engine flying over the coast of the southern area of Gran Canaria.

As a result of the surveillance carried out by the Provincial Maritime Service, they observed how on the coast it flew towards the Port of Mogán, returning again towards Arguineguín, and returning to the mouth of the Puerto Escala de Puerto Rico, where it landed 100 meters from the same mouth.

Said device flew at an approximate height of between 50 and 100 meters and at an estimated speed of about 30 knots, verified by the patrol boat's radar. Once the device landed, the patrol boat that was about 100 meters away was notified to go to the place and proceed to identify the two occupants.

The two people who were piloting the device were wearing helmets, seat belts and life jackets, and were seated one behind the other in seats arranged longitudinally along the inflatable base of the boat.

It was immediately intercepted by the Civil Guard, verifying that at the time of the inspection of the aeronautical device there was a person on board as a client since he was carrying out a nautical activity of a company to which they offer to give this type of service. The documentation provided states that the device is a motor-powered hang glider, intended for rental without a driver, which is not the activity that was carried out at the time of the inspection and which does not correspond to the resolution of the Maritime Transport Communication for Tourist Purposes.

In terms of safety, it should be noted that this device used a surface for takeoff and landing as an occasional flight field not authorized by those responsible for said surface.

The circumstance is that at the time of the inspection, the person in charge presented various documentation regarding the Motorized Ultra Light in the Aeronautical field, as well as the vessel in the maritime field, which is not valid by itself since joint approval is required (vessel and aircraft) and the certificate of the device to be able to carry out the activity.

All the irregularities detected were brought to the attention of the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas and the Government of the Canary Islands, so that these bodies, in view of the data provided, proceed to carry out the necessary steps and actions to determine administrative responsibilities, with the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas adopting as a precautionary measure the sealing of the aforementioned device, which was carried out by members of this Provincial Maritime Service.
