The Civil Guard has confirmed this Friday the indictment of five people for the illegal dog fight that was filmed in Lanzarote. Among them are a young adult, who is the owner of the animals and responds to the initials of S.R.S., and four minors, all of them Spanish. In addition, it has clarified that the investigation of the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) remains open and "further charges for these events are not ruled out."

So far, the five defendants between this Wednesday and Thursday must answer for an alleged crime against the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals, punishable by prison sentences of 3 months to 1 year, in addition to disqualification from exercising any profession, trade or business related to animals.

In addition, the owner of the dogs will also be denounced "as an infringer of different sections of Law 50/1999, of December 23, on the legal regime of the possession of potentially dangerous animals, and Law 8/1991, of April 30, on the protection of domestic animals in the Canary Islands", according to the Civil Guard.

The investigation began "as a result of a video that someone put on the internet, in which a series of people were seen, in a town in Lanzarote, showing a series of acts with which they supposedly encouraged two dogs to fight each other, then encouraging them to continue the aforementioned fight."

The proceedings originated by the investigation have been sent to the respective Court on duty, and to the Permanent Attachment of the Prosecutor's Office for the Environment, both in the town of Arrecife.
