The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist Group (GEDEX) of the Civil Guard has proceeded to destroy an artillery shell that was being used as a decorative element in the garden near Playa Quemada, in the municipality of Yaiza. "The device was half-buried and simulating being another plant in the garden", they point out from the Benemérita.

The events occurred after the Civil Guard was alerted by a citizen that a possible device, which was supposedly active, was in a garden in a very difficult to access area. The man, "knowing all kinds of explosives, immediately notified the Civil Guard to remove it and avoid a serious danger," they say.

To get to the place, the Civil Guard had to go in collaboration with Firefighters of the Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote, using the 4x4 of an all-terrain vehicle with special characteristics on a journey of more than 1 hour.

Finally, the Gedex had to adopt the necessary security measures to carry out a controlled explosion in a nearby area given the danger of transferring the device, whose origin is unknown at the moment.
