The Civil Guard has ended the search for Bosco José Fernández Tapias, who disappeared since September 28 on the island of Lanzarote, once confirmed that he jumped into the water in the Playa Chica area (Tías) in order to perform a dive. The armed body has concluded that during the diving session he may have suffered an accident that prevented him from leaving the water alive.
According to sources from the armed body, all the data collected indicate that the body is in a sinkhole located between 200 and 300 meters deep, so its location is "impossible". At least two other divers have died in the area in similar circumstances, they have pointed out from the Civil Guard.
At this time, the Judicial Police and the Citizen Security unit of the Civil Guard remain at the scene collecting more data, after the Special Group of Underwater Activities (Geas) has finished the search of the area where the body of the son of the well-known businessman Fernando Fernández Tapias could be found.
The searches began last Tuesday, after the family of the missing person filed a complaint after several days without knowing anything about him. The area is known as Playa Chica or Pila de la Barrilla, where several diving schools are located.
He bought diving equipment
Sources from the Emergency Consortium have explained to ACN Press that the hypothesis they are working with is that Bosco José traveled in his rental vehicle to this beach. The last movement of his credit card is from September 28, and corresponds to the purchase of diving equipment, including six kilos of weights ?used in this sport to balance on the seabed.
"Part of the equipment has not been located," explained the same sources, which supports the theory that the son of the Madrid businessman could have made a solo dive, according to reports. They have also confirmed that he had started an immersion course, which he had not yet finished, and that would enable him to descend to a depth of 20 meters.
They are working with the possibility that after entering the water alone, which no instruction school recommends, he suffered narcosis, which is characterized by a numbness of the diver when descending to a greater depth than the body is accustomed to ?and which usually occurs below 40 meters- which causes loss of consciousness and death by drowning.
Bosco José had been residing on the Island of Lanzarote for several months, exactly in the Las Caletas area, between Arrecife and Costa Teguise. A few weeks ago he had started a windsurfing course, which he had not finished either. Two brothers of the missing person have moved to the island.
