The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through its president, Pedro San Ginés, has reported to the relevant judicial authorities the theft of solar panels and connection cables that were located on the roof of six of the canopies recently installed in the municipalities of Tinajo and Haría.
According to the report prepared by the technicians of the inspection services of the Transport Area, during the visits made on October 31 and November 2 to the aforementioned canopies "it was possible to take note of the damage" in these facilities.
As stated in the report, the affected canopies are those of Mala Bajo II; Tabayesco II; Las Casillas in Haría; Curva de la Vegueta I; Correos la Vegueta I and Correos la Vegueta II, in Tinajo. All of them had an alternative energy supply system for their lighting by means of solar panels. However, during the inspection carried out by the Transport technicians, it was noted that "both the solar panels and the connection cables had been stolen", according to the Cabildo.
Thus, and understanding that these acts could constitute a crime, or misdemeanor, for attacking property for public use or service, the Cabildo has requested the relevant judicial authority to investigate the facts and "delimit the civil or criminal responsibilities that may be appropriate against the perpetrator or perpetrators thereof".
For his part, the councilor responsible for the Area, Ángel Vázquez, makes an appeal to civic-mindedness and recalls that "these facilities were financed with public funds and their restoration will now involve an outlay of 2,079 euros, 346.50 euros for each of the six affected canopies".
