The six-year-old boy who was in serious condition after being rescued upon arriving in Lanzarote in a capsized boat died this Tuesday at the Hospital Insular Materno Infantil in Gran Canaria, as reported to Efe by sources from the Canary Islands Ministry of Health.
The minor was resuscitated from a cardiorespiratory arrest upon arrival in the early morning of August 11 to 12 and was initially evacuated along with another pregnant woman to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, and later urgently transferred to Gran Canaria, with symptoms of hypothermia and a severe blow to the head.
The boat in which the minor was traveling capsized prior to the arrival of Salvamento, whose helicopter took charge of rescuing eight survivors who were in the water.
In that same boat, a seven-year-old girl disappeared who apparently drowned after detaching from her mother, who was carrying her tied with a scarf.
During the night in which the deceased minor was rescued, there was a frantic arrival of boats to the Canary coasts. The Guardamar Polimnia and the Salvamar Al Nair rescued eight boats that were trying to reach Lanzarote and Fuerteventura with more than 400 people on board.
