Firefighters rescued a dog that was locked inside a cistern in Arrecife, according to the Security and Emergency Consortium. The events took place around 6:00 p.m. in the Argana Alta neighborhood, specifically behind the San Román cemetery, in the capital of Lanzarote.

Alerted by agents of the Local Police, the emergency teams approached the area to remove the animal that was perched on the overflow with bars of the cistern that was full of water. The one-year-old mixed-breed male, who responded to the name of Pipo, was trapped inside the cistern, lying down and apparently exhausted.

It was a young man who was walking through the area who called the Local Police to request help for the dog to be released. Firefighters, police and welfare got to work to release the dog by cutting one of the iron bars with the help of the shears.

Once the dog was released, an attempt was made to contact the animal's owner, although without success. Unfortunately, no response was received through the registered telephone, and the address associated in the databases was uninhabited, the Arrecife Local Police force said.

In addition, agents of the Local Police and an animal welfare worker also traveled to the area. Finally, it was that Animal Welfare employee who was in charge of assisting the animal after the rescue. The dog was transferred to the Arrecife Animal Protection Center, where he will receive the necessary attention and will be guarded while the circumstances of the incident are resolved.
