National Police agents in Arrecife have arrested a 44-year-old man with a police record as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of assault on law enforcement officers.
The events unfolded after the 091 telephone number received a call from the medical staff of a medical center in Arrecife, reporting that an individual had appeared there demanding to be tested for COVID-19.
The man, who stated verbatim that he had no symptoms and that they didn't want to attend to him because they saw him as a fool, even threatened several healthcare workers.
The police officers who arrived at the scene tried in vain to dialogue and calm the individual, who continued with a defiant and threatening attitude. When one of the national police officers tried to identify the man, he struck him a strong blow, causing both of them to fall to the ground, where he also bit him on the leg.
The officers finally managed to subdue him and proceeded to arrest him as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of assault on law enforcement officers. During the arrest, four national police officers suffered minor injuries, which were treated by medical personnel.
After the corresponding police report was prepared, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
The police intervention was carried out by agents from the Arrecife Police Station.
