The Arrecife City Council has walled up a garage used as a 'drug den' on a street in the Maneje neighborhood, following an intervention by the Local Police. Residents had alerted the authorities about the use of this property, a garage in a house, as a place for drug consumption.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, ordered the property to be walled up with blocks. Several workers from the Department of Public Works have recently completed this walling, which has been approved by the property owner. The closure has been limited to the garage door, a space used for the consumption of narcotic substances.

The Arrecife Local Police had been monitoring the area following repeated complaints from neighborhood residents who reported the presence of drug addicts illegally occupying this garage. The frequent presence at this ground floor was suffered by the residents, who have thanked the mayor for the action taken with the intervention of the local police and the closure of the premises.

Local Police deployment in sensitive areas

Yonathan de León has announced in recent days, on social media, the actions that the Local Police has been carrying out in different areas of Arrecife to deactivate places frequented for drug consumption. The Local Police has carried out preventive controls in the area of the La Vega neighborhood square, next to the Socio-Cultural Center, and the area next to the Parque de Los Pinos, in the Titerroy neighborhood.

Finally, the mayor informs that the Local Police, of which he is directly responsible, both the USCI group, as well as the agents and camouflaged vehicles, will continue to be deployed in all the neighborhoods of the city. Residents have been alerting the Police to the existence of premises or public spaces used for these illicit purposes.
