The Civil Guard has managed to identify a 38-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety, for causing an accident without a driving license and then fleeing.
Initially, the person involved denied being the driver at the time of the accident, but subsequent investigations by the Civil Guard revealed "inconsistencies in his speech, leading the person to admit the facts", according to reports from the Benemérita.
The incident took place on June 2, when a car crashed into the median that separates both directions of traffic on the LZ-2 road from Arrecife to Playa Blanca, near San Bartolomé. The vehicle left the road and ended up several tens of meters from the point of impact, in a dirt area.
Upon the arrival of the emergency services and the Traffic Group patrol, they did not find the driver in the vehicle or in the vicinity; nor was there any record that he had been transferred to a health center.
Police investigations, carried out by the Traffic Civil Guard, led to the identification of a man as the alleged driver of the damaged vehicle, who had a revocation of his driving license due to the total loss of points.
The man could now face a prison sentence of three to six months, fines, or community service for 31 to 90 days. The proceedings have already been delivered to the Investigating Court number 2 of Arrecife.
