A 30-year-old man was arrested this Tuesday in San Bartolomé after leading a dangerous car chase through the streets of the town, in which he ended up colliding with a house. The arrested man had several search and arrest warrants issued by different courts on the island of Gran Canaria, as he ended up confessing to the agents.

The events began at around 7:30 p.m., when a Civil Guard patrol was carrying out a routine check on the LZ-20 and signaled this vehicle to stop, in which the detainee, a native of Teror, was traveling with two other young women from Lanzarote. Instead of stopping, according to the police report, the driver ignored the signal and began the escape "at high speed" in the direction of the town of San Bartolomé.

Then the chase began by the Civil Guard patrol and a motorized unit, which he tried to "destabilize." According to the report, at one point he gave a "sudden stop," causing one of the agents to fall to the ground with the motorcycle.

Afterwards, he resumed the escape "at high speed" and "through aggressive driving, swerving and braking," "zigzagging," running a yield sign, forcing other drivers to "brake suddenly" and "causing a serious danger to other road users." Even inside the town, he invaded the sidewalk on several occasions, forcing several pedestrians to move aside to avoid being run over.

Meanwhile, the Civil Guard patrol continued the chase, indicating through a megaphone that he should stop, until finally the man lost control of the car and crashed into a house on Ramón y Cajal Street.

He continued fleeing on foot and hit the officers

Far from stopping, he continued his escape on foot, while the two young women who were traveling with him remained in the vehicle. Finally, the agents caught up with him and had to subdue him, as he continued to resist arrest. According to the report, he gave them "punches and kicks," causing minor injuries, with "abrasions and bruises on the arms and head."

In the first moment of the arrest, the young man refused to give his details, but he did so later at the Civil Guard barracks of San Bartolomé, where he was taken after the arrest. There, according to the agents, he indicated that he had not identified himself before "because he is wanted by several courts in Gran Canaria."

The young man, born in Teror and with no known address on the island, must answer for alleged crimes of reckless driving, resistance and/or disobedience, assault on an authority figure and damages, which are those imputed by the Civil Guard.

As for the two young women who were traveling with him, they were also identified by the agents. One of them is 23 years old and the other is 16, so being a minor, the agents went to look for her mother, who works in the town, to inform her of what happened. Both were born in Arrecife, although the minor resides in San Bartolomé.

In addition, the agents also identified the owner of the house against which the vehicle collided, so that she can claim for the damages caused.
