Agents of the Citizen Attention Operative Group (GOAC) of the Local Police of Arrecife assisted on February 4 a woman victim of gender violence in a neighborhood of the capital of the island.
Once on the scene, local agents found the victim sheltered in the home, while the aggressor was outside. He was detained to prevent his escape, as noted in the proceedings carried out by the Local Police.
Subsequent interviews conducted by the acting agents of the Local Police confirmed and allowed for the arrest of the individual, the victim's former partner, who had come to that home to discuss matters related to their two minor children.
According to the Local Police of Arrecife, the conversation evolved into an argument and subsequent struggle, resulting in erosions present on the victim's neck, who managed to take refuge inside the home and contact emergency services.
The Arrecife City Council highlights the role of the Local Police of Arrecife in the protection of victims of gender violence. The council points out that "they offer an immediate response when they are alerted to these situations to provide security to those who need it and facilitate the prompt arrest of the aggressor."
On occasion, the activation of priority signals and driving according to the circumstances of the emergency may be uncomfortable for citizens, but it responds to the urgency of helping a citizen, the Local Police remind.
At the same time, the council has celebrated "the involvement of society giving way quickly when they see the presence of police cars in services, significantly contribute to our agents address the emergency immediately and assist potential victims."
The Local Police of Arrecife urges citizens to communicate to the police force any signs of possible situations of gender violence in families residing in their environments, or may know by other means, to enable in Arrecife a solid and efficient support network for the safety of all.
During the past 2023, the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife offered citizen attention in more than 30,000 services, among the tasks assigned by law to the bodies of the Local Police.
