A taxi driver from Arrecife suffered a brutal beating on Saturday night that led him to the Molina Orosa Hospital. According to Manuel Guillén, president of the Auto Taxi Association of the capital, "Antonio picked up three individuals at the Santa Coloma stop, and near the Sports City the car broke down, then the colleague told them that he was going to call another taxi driver to continue the trip and that's when they tried to steal his cell phone and the day's earnings." "He resisted and that's when they beat him, which has taken him to the Hospital." Guillén also appreciates "the rapid action of the National Police who arrested them in just one hour." The attack took place around 11:00 p.m.

The three alleged assailants were arrested just an hour later in a nightclub in the capital of Lanzarote, whose private security collaborated in the arrest. The detainees are between 19 and 26 years old, two are from Arrecife and one is foreign. According to sources close to the case, they are two very violent habitual offenders.

This Sunday the taxi driver is in the ICU, and according to family members have told Manuel Guillén, he is progressing favorably.
