A novice driver of only 18 years old was caught on March 1 driving at 113 kilometers per hour on the Rambla Medular of Arrecife, when the speed on that road is limited to 40.
The young man was captured by the speedometer at 11.45 hours, so he was identified by agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety.
From the police force they warn of the danger of driving at that speed in an urban area, since the probability that a pedestrian or cyclist will die in a traffic accident increases with the speed at which the impact with a vehicle occurs. "While in a hit at 30 kilometers per hour the probability of fatal injuries is 10%, this probability of dying increases to 80% at only 50 kilometers per hour and approaches 100% from 60 kilometers per hour, according to several international studies," they point out from the Consistory.
In addition to this intervention, the Local Police has investigated another six drivers in the last week for crimes against road safety, four of them for driving without a driving license or with the loss of all assigned points and two others for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
