A girl watches as her brother is thrown into the sea after dying in the boat

The story of a girl of about twelve years old from Guinea Conakri has just left the members of the emergency services who are attending to the last of the boats arriving in the south of Gran Canaria frozen: Her brother, nine, died just a few hours before, while they were lost in the Atlantic, and his fellow travelers threw his body into the sea.

The Guardamar Talía, of Maritime Rescue, has returned on Friday night to the port of Arguineguín with an unusual boat, formed mostly by women: 21 of its 34 occupants are, including a girl and a young pregnant woman.

The occupants of the boat, sub-Saharans, say they had been at sea for about five days when a Rescue plane found them, about 160 kilometers south of the land they now tread.
