A joint operation between agents of the National Police from the narcotics group of the local police station of Arrecife and the Central Brigade of Narcotics, Drug and Organized Crime Unit of Las Palmas has resulted in the arrest in Gran Canaria of nine men and one woman between the ages of 27 and 55 as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of belonging to a criminal organization and drug trafficking.
They belonged to an organized structure based in the Canary Islands, whose modus operandi was the distribution of large quantities of narcotic substances between the islands and the Iberian Peninsula, using a logistics transport company for this purpose.
The investigation began last September and during it, successive shipments of narcotic substance were intercepted.
These shipments were allegedly carried out in collusion with the main managers of a well-known logistics company based in Puerto de la Luz y de Las Palmas.
Four searches in Gran Canaria and ten detainees
Once the investigation process was completed, the police officers carried out four entries and searches on the island of Gran Canaria, two in the homes of the main investigated and two others, in the warehouses that the logistics company owns in Puerto de la Luz y de Las Palmas.
During the entire police operation, 750 kilograms of hashish, 62 of cocaine, one of amphetamines have been seized and more than 36,000 euros in cash, five vehicles and various technological and telecommunications equipment related to the crime have been seized.
The police operation ended with the arrest of nine men and one woman in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the complete dismantling of the criminal network established by them.
It should be noted that two of the detainees had already been arrested in 2018 in a National Police anti-drug operation for similar events, pending the holding of the trial next May.
The detainees have been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of belonging to a criminal organization and drug trafficking.
