A man who was fishing in La Graciosa fell into the water due to a wave last Saturday afternoon, October 27. A call alerted Emergencies and Rescues of Lanzarote (EMERLAN) that in a place known as Baja del Fraile there were four people fishing and that one of them had been dragged away from the coast by a wave.

A light boat from the local Non-Governmental Organization located the victim, a 49-year-old man from Madrid, who was barely staying afloat about 300 meters from the shore, in the area known as La Burrera. Together with the EMERLAN volunteers, a fisherman, who knew the currents and the place, went to the area, being of great help in the rescue.

Once the man was brought onto the boat, in the first review, he was found to have a dislocated knee, an open wound on his leg, scratches, cuts and various bruises on almost his entire body, caused, according to the victim, when he initially tried to get out of the water through the rocks, but was unable to do so.

The victim was transferred to the port of Caleta del Sebo where the medical personnel of La Graciosa attended to him and then he was urgently evacuated with the Líneas Romero boat to Órzola. From there, a medical ambulance transferred him to the General Hospital.
