A boat with 27 migrants on board was rescued this Tuesday while sailing towards the Canary archipelago, according to sources from Maritime Rescue.
At around 09:00 hours, the Maritime Rescue Control Center in Las Palmas received a notice from a merchant ship reporting that they had spotted a boat about 103 miles northeast of Lanzarote.
The 'Concepción Arenal' coast guard was deployed to the scene, and at around 16:00 hours intercepted the boat and proceeded to rescue its occupants, 23 men and 4 women of Maghrebi origin, in apparent good health.
With everyone on board, the coast guard set course for Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, where its arrival was scheduled for around 22:30 hours.
On the other hand, Maritime Rescue has also received a notice about the alleged departure of a boat from El Aaiún, mobilizing the Sasemar plane, which has completed the search without obtaining results. From the Maritime Rescue Control Center in Rabat they have reported that their units have also rescued a boat and are trying to find out if it is the same one.
