The series Jardines con Historia, from La2 of RTVE, will dedicate its next chapter to the Cactus Garden and the Jameos del Agua, two works developed by César Manrique, the greatest exponent of the 'land art' movement in Spain.
The island of Lanzarote has been chosen for this episode for its landscape full of unheard-of corners, such as the space with 4,500 specimens of cacti and succulents of 450 different species or the garden hidden inside a volcanic tube, all of them integrated within the network of Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
Various personalities related to the artist's work will participate in this program, such as Fernando Gómez Aguilera, director of the César Manrique Foundation, the journalist Saúl García Crespo and the gardener, curator of the Cactus Garden, Antonio Manuel Martín.
For his part, Arturo Franco will be in charge of presenting the biography of the different characters who, through the gardens, thought, created and contributed to establishing their own and varied landscape culture, with native and exotic botanical species adapted to the conditions of the geography, where the garden arises as a means of artistic and human expression linked to the culture and feeling of its promoters and creators.
The series, directed by Sonia Tercero Ramiro, will tour emblematic gardens, both public and private, heirs to different styles and historical periods, such as the horticultural gardens in Medina Azahara, the Patio de las Doncellas in the Real Alcázar of Seville or the Monastery of El Escorial, among others. All of them make up the landscape dimension of the cultural assets of the national plant heritage.
After the broadcast of the first season in 2021, Jardines con Historia has received the Iris Award from the Jury of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its careful aesthetics, for raising awareness among viewers about landscape heritage and for its commitment to the environment and sustainability through knowledge of the history of Spain.
