The musical "ETNO", directed by the accordionist, Miguel Afonso, conquered the audience that filled the Santo Domingo convent in Teguise last Friday night.

"ETNO" is a very innovative musical project with a great cultural content related to the oldest music of the Canary Islands with extensive field work with which a rich legacy has been rescued in terms of rhythms, melodies, couplets and romances, many of them dormant in old trunks. A cultural confluence that has marked the island identity after the passage of centuries.

Miguel Afonso is one of the most established and projected popular musicians of the Canary Islands, creating his own style and marking a very personal path which began a long journey through the world of traditional music, conducting research on the musical tradition in the islands and dedicating these last years to the study of the accordion as an instrument of great impact in the Canary Islands.

Afonso, for this project called "ETNO", has had the collaboration of outstanding musicians and soloists such as; Ivanoff Rodríguez - Double bass, Oriel Ray - Percussion, Gonzalo Macías and Víctor Batista - Guitars and three great soloists such as Patricia Muñoz, Víctor Batista and Isabel Padrón with unique voices that allow them to interpret any musical genre of Canarian or Latin American root. The director chose a complete repertoire where the musical fusion of traditional instruments with the accordion as the protagonist made the audience enjoy melodies such as Mazurca de Gáldar, La Danza del Trigo, Aires de Lima or the romances of La Pobre Adela and Cataga among many other songs such as "Chiquilla Mía", a marine-style song as a tribute to the Los Buches band.

Finally, Afonso presented those present with a danceable medley that was sung and applauded by all. With a great desire to dance but due to the circumstances we are experiencing and following the orders of the Department of Culture and Festivities, directed by councilor Nori Machín, they remained in their seats until the Culture staff indicated the exit from the venue.
