The San Bartolomé Space Carnival kicked off last weekend with numerous events that have registered an "enormous success in participation and public." "Citizens are involved in an inclusive program aimed at all ages, from the conviction that Carnival is a party for the whole family," says the mayor, Isidro Pérez.

The Great Drag Queen Gala, held on Saturday and presented by journalists Alicia Suárez and David Perdomo, has demonstrated in its second edition the high level of designers and participants, with Vanessa Artiles and DJ Álex Ossorio as guest artists.

Also on Sunday, the Chinijo Carnival once again flooded the Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente Park with color, music and joy, where neighbors of all ages gathered to participate in the costume contests and in the many activities programmed for the little ones.

Next was the Carnival Presentation Gala, a show in which both the host groups -Afilarmónica Femenina Las Revoltosas and Batucada Guaychara- as well as the guests -Murga Los Simplones and La Chirimurga del Timple- unleashed, through ingenuity and mordant criticism, the laughter of an audience devoted to their Carnival.

Final stretch

The events resume this Tuesday, February 21, with the expected Day Carnival, the continuation of the workshops and, from 1:00 p.m., concerts by Edwin Rivera, K-Narias, Grupo Bomba, Combo Dominicano and DJ Ángel Pérez.

On Thursday, after the workshops scheduled from 4:00 p.m. in Playa Honda, the children's murgas will perform from 7:00 p.m. in the Plaza de Santa Elena.

The 2023 San Bartolomé Space Carnival will close on Friday, February 24 with the traditional parade on Avenida de Guacimeta, ending at Juan El Curita beach with the Burning of the Guachinango and the concert by the mythical Spanish pop group Seguridad Social.

Las Revoltosas Exhibition

This year's carnival festivities in San Bartolomé aim to be, on the other hand, a recognition of all the people and groups that make them possible year after year. "The effort, dedication and talent that so many residents of the municipality demonstrate in these weeks in which the streets and stages of San Bartolomé are filled with music, joy and good humor is priceless," says Isidro Pérez.

After the commemoration last year of four decades of history, this 2023 Carnival once again pays tribute to the pioneering women's murga of the Canary Islands, Las Revoltosas, protagonists of the exhibition inaugurated at the beginning of February and which can be visited in the Bodeguita de la Casa Cerdeña until this Friday in morning and afternoon hours.

Isidro Pérez encourages the residents of San Bartolomé to visit this exhibition which, under the slogan 'A whole revolution', seeks to be a fair recognition of the journey, since its inception in 1982, of this afilarmónica of women passionate about Carnival and which is already part of the identity of the municipality.
