The Playa Blanca Canine Carnival raises awareness about animal care

The canine world of Playa Blanca celebrated its particular Carnival this Friday in a purely family-friendly party with the purpose of having a fun time, of course, but above all to remind society of the message of awareness about animal care with the good example of neighbors of the municipality committed to the responsible ownership of their pets, about twenty of them that encouraged the carnival meeting showing off ingenious costumes, thus fulfilling the objective of the Playa Blanca Canine Carnival organized by the Animal Protection Area of Yaiza with the support of the Doggys del Sur volunteers, an association that defends animals and their rights.

The costume contest was won by the pet Noa with her fantasy ‘Spaghetti a la noañesa’, however, this peculiar characterization was not the only one awarded by the qualifying jury, which awarded the second and third prize to the pets Alma, with her fantasy ‘Rugby cheerleaders’, and Tadeo, with his fantasy ‘Minions’, a difficult mission for the jury due to the number of creative proposals, almost all made with recyclable material.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the councilor for Animal Protection, Águeda Cedrés, presented the gifts to the winners, thanking all the participants "for their willingness to collaborate for a good cause". The jury also wanted to give a special prize to the pet Toby, with his fantasy ‘Angelito’, for his joy and confidence on the catwalk.

Dogs that are cared for at the Yaiza Animal Shelter, who are looking for a home, also paraded in the Canine Carnival with a public call for adoption. The meeting also served to learn about stories full of tenderness from people who have decided to incorporate animals with a sad history of abandonment or mistreatment into their families. The pet Alma, who won the second prize for costumes, is a dog that received shelter from a very young girl and boy after meeting her at the Yaiza Shelter.

The southern celebration also offered a dog trainer exhibition, positive training and education with practical tips to avoid encouraging aggression in animals. The Yaiza City Council appreciates the invaluable work that the Doggys del Sur Association carries out in the municipality.
