The Norwegian Trondheim Soloists will open the Canary Islands International Music Festival in Lanzarote

The 32nd edition of the International Music Festival of the Canary Islands in Lanzarote kicks off this Thursday with a performance by the Norwegian orchestra Trondheim Soloists. The group will offer a concert that day at the Teatro Insular de Lanzarote with pieces by Bach, Tchaikovsky and Bartok, among others. The next day, they will move to La Graciosa.

The first performance will begin at 9:00 p.m. and will feature the solo violin Guro Kleven Hagen. The direction will be in charge of the prestigious Øyvind Gimse, who has been directing the group for several years.

The Trondheim Soloist is a string group formed in 1988 that soon gained recognition, in its native Norway and quickly throughout Europe, for its energy and elegance. Since its inception, they have maintained the same spirit of learning that characterizes them, since the ensemble is made up, in part, of students. They have collaborated with leading figures such as Anne-Sophie Mutter.

On Friday, January 15, the orchestra will travel to La Graciosa to offer the first of the two concerts that the Canary Islands Music Festival will offer this year on the Eighth Island. The concert will be at 8:30 p.m. in the Iglesia del Carmen in Caleta de Sebo. The concert in La Graciosa will be free, while the one at the Teatro Insular costs 15 euros.

Pieces by Bartok, Bach or Tchaikovsky

The program for the two concerts by the Trondheim Soloist includes four pieces. These are 'Ballad' by E. Grieg, for which Øyvind Gimse has arranged for strings, 'Souvenir d'un lieu cher' by Tchaikovsky, the concerto for two violins in D minor by Bach, and the 'Divertimento for string orchestra' by Bartok.

Tickets for all festival concerts are now on sale and can be purchased at www.culturalanzarote.com or on the FMC website, www.festivaldecanarias.com

In addition to the Iglesia del Carmen and the Teatro Insular, other venues that will host concerts are the Auditorio de Jameos del Agua, the Convento de Santo Domingo in Teguise and the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas in Yaiza.
