The great family of the Timbayba Musical Cultural Group of Tinajo paid an emotional tribute to the friend and colleague Ricardo Toribio 'El Pollo', who recently passed away, on Saturday night.
The social hall of Tinajo was completely packed with family members, colleagues from all the groups on the island and friends, who gathered to join the colleagues from Timbayba, who programmed the tribute to their colleague Ricardo, from whom they could not say goodbye.
The tribute began at 9:00 p.m. and was presided over by Ricardo's wife, daughter and son-in-law, surrounded by brothers and nephews who followed the entire development of the act programmed by Ricardo's other family, the members of Timbayba, who with much contained emotion gave their best in honor of the absent colleague and friend on a very special night.
Participation of eleven folk groups
For this, the collaboration of eleven folk groups representing the seven municipalities of Lanzarote was counted on. Each of them was represented by a dance couple, who were also joined by five invited soloists. The musical part was carried out throughout the act by the Timbayba touch body, who made a selection of the most traditional songs and dances such as isas, folías, seguidillas, berlina and malagueña. This last piece was the one in which Ricardo put the most effort, getting his dance partners to become authentic dancing butterflies, eliciting the loudest applause every time he danced it.
Despite the emotional tension that enveloped the atmosphere, the large audience enjoyed a unique spectacle when contemplating at times three dance bodies formed by the couples of the eleven participating groups.
Without a doubt, the most emotional moment of the night took place when the relatives of Ricardo Toribio 'El Pollo' took to the stage to receive several gifts that were given to them by the members of the invited folk groups, the Tinajo City Council, the Rancho de Pascuas Archinech de Tinajo, the Tinajo Sports Club and the Timbayba family. The public, standing, applauded for a minute wanting to also pay tribute to the deceased member.
With the chords of an isa parrandera, the tribute to Ricardo Toribio, who for 33 years dedicated himself to preserving the cultural tradition of the Canary Islands, came to a close.
