The Summer Traveling Cinema of Tenique Cultural continues its journey through Lanzarote to bring the best films to all the municipalities of the island. After a successful start in La Tiñosa (Tías), the project will make its second stop in Arrecife, where two great box office hits will be screened: The Mission and The Secret in Their Eyes.
The Pedro Alcántara square (old Harinera) will become, for the second consecutive year, a refreshing open-air cinema on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, starting at nine o'clock at night, with free admission until full capacity. In addition, attendees can enjoy freshly made popcorn, courtesy of the organization, while enjoying the film.
'The Mission'. Friday 19, at 9:00 p.m.
In the 18th century, in the middle of the tropical jungle, a Jesuit adventurer, Father Gabriel (Jeremy Irons), enters unknown lands to contact the feared Guarani Indians. Shortly after, Rodrigo Mendoza (Robert De Niro) joins him, an ex-slave trader, mercenary and murderer, who, seeking to be forgiven for a horrendous crime he has committed, tries to find salvation among his former victims. After fighting together for years, they finally face the power of the European crowns that want to maintain the slave trade between the two continents with the approval of the church.
After its release, The Mission achieved great critical and public success, obtaining the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The soundtrack by Ennio Morricone and the interpretive duel between Robert de Niro and Jeremy Irons, together with the impressive landscapes of Iguazu, contain the rhythm, the spectacularity and the power of capturing the best adventure film.
'The Secret in Their Eyes'. Saturday 20, at 9:00 p.m.
Benjamín Espósito is an official of an Examining Magistrate's Court in Buenos Aires, recently retired. Obsessed by a brutal murder that occurred twenty-five years earlier, he decides to write a novel about the case, of which he was a witness and protagonist. Reliving the past, the memory of a woman, whom he has loved in silence during all that time, also comes to his memory.
This film, a Spanish-Argentine co-production starring Ricardo Darín, became one of the highest-grossing films in the history of Argentine cinema, with more than two and a half million viewers. The year after its release, it became the second Argentine title to win the Oscar for best foreign film. The absorbing criminal plot, the intense love story and the interpretation of brilliant protagonists are already part of the history of great cinema.
Summer Traveling Cinema is possible thanks to the financing of the Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the City Councils of Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Tías, Teguise, Tinajo, Haría and Yaiza.
